WHY WHY WHY!! I ask this question often sometimes! Was I REALLY meant to live through these preteen years??
We got John a phone for his birthday! WHOOOOPPPPIIIEEEEE!! For some unknown reason the most certainly intelligent person at the phone store who added John's line, failed to block the internet access on his phone! GUESS who happened to find it!! Yup! You guessed it!! John! So NOW he is the proud owner of not one but 3 full blown games and 4 napster songs and one ringtone! I have a fw days before my bill comes up and I can actually see what it is that he has purchased and how much this little blunder will cost, (HOWEVER, what John does not know is that ATT told me THEY would remove it after it is all billed, since they were at fault for not blocking it to begin with!)!
I do have to give it to John though, he offered to have the phone taken away from him. BUT in the spirit of parenting I explained to him that it was not HIM that set his punishments it was me. Therefore I told him after the bill would arrive online that I would let him know just how much he will have to work in order to pay back the phone bill he has incurred!
Needless to say the internet is now blocked on the phone and he is saddned that he may no longer send picture mail! OH Well! Should not abuse something when you find out you have it!!!
Ahhhhh lessons learned from the perils of preteens!!!

John and Laundry!
Just last week my Husband decided that John was old enough to spend the day alone at the house while I was at work. Easy enough, or so he thought! So one perticular day I decided that while he was still home he needed to do laundry! So I texted him and asked him to please start doing some laundry. I had taught him before so SURELY he would have remembered and could recall what steps needed to be done in order to succesfully do a load of laundry! UuuuHuh..... So I come home to some semi dry laundry on the couch and picked it up. First of all besides the fact that it was not completly dry which I got over, it did not feel clean. I thought about it for a bit and then dismissed it as I was so thankful he had actually done it!
Later during dinner we were discussing our day and John told his Dad he had done some laundry. His Dad said, "really? You know how to do Laundry?" I replied that I had taught him how a while back. Then John replied that he knew how but did not know how much soap to put in so he just left it out all together!
AAAAAHHHHHHH NOW I know why the laundry did not feel clean! So before I have him do the laundry again, I will most certainly make him a chart to hang next to the washer so that he can actually but soap in it!!!!

Welcome
Welcome to Perils of the Preteen! We're so glad you've stumbled upon it. We are both mothers of preteens...these kids give us material that couldn't be funnier if we made it up. Debi's son "John" is 11, and my daughter "Kate" is 12. We're not sure exactly what we have planned for this blog, but we know we'll have some fun together relaying their latest escapades (ok, truthfully, MOST of the crazy antics come from John, but Kate is 12 going on 35, and that makes for some funny comments).
Remember, life's too short to take it too seriously ;)
